Working With a Financial Consultant

While many people want to pursue the same dreams their parents had, like buying a house and putting their children through college, the world has become a more complex place than it was years ago, especially when it comes to your finances. If you aren't sure how to go about developing a financial strategy to secure your future, you may benefit from the expertise of a financial professional.

Services a financial professional may provide

A financial professional can act as a sounding board for your ideas and help you focus on your goals, using his or her broad knowledge of areas such as planning for retirement and investments. If you need help setting goals, determining the state of your current financial affairs, developing a plan to help meet your goals and adjusting your plan to help meet your goals and to accommodate changing investment markets, then a consultant could be the perfect person to help support you on your financial journey.

When is it time to consult a financial professional?

In many cases, a specific life event or a perceived need may prompt you to seek professional financial guidance. Such events or needs might include getting married or divorced, having a baby or adopting a child, paying for your child's college education, changing jobs or careers or planning for your retirement. What if you were to receive an inheritance or financial windfall; would you know exactly how best to manage those funds? You don’t always need a large life change to seek financial guidance, though. If your money is causing you daily stress, a financial coach might be able to help ease the burden by giving you a game plan and simple ways to stay on track.

I retired in 2011 and had to go back to work Dec of 2012 because of financial problems. I'm 72 and need some advice and guidance to get on track to pay off my debts so I can retire again. I don't want to work forever and need advice on how to pay down our debt. I am a member of FCU, is financial advice free?
