Are You #CyberAware?

Cyber Security Awareness Month with FCU

No matter how you use the internet – updating profiles on social media, looking up recipes, sending business emails – it’s become an important part of our daily lives. However, ensuring personal cyber-security and knowing how to protect yourself online is important, which is why October has become a collaborative event between the government, the tech industry and consumers to protect Americans online. It’s called National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), and we bet it affects you, too!

What is Cyber Security?

If you’ve heard about data breaches, identity theft, network outages, viruses and other scary computer dangers, then you know about cyber security. Also called information technology security, cyber security is the act of protecting computers, networks and data from those with malicious intentions. While individuals should do their share to protect their computers and information, it’s an important issue that’s handled by governments, businesses, financial institutions and anyone who has valuable information stored electronically.

How can I participate in being #CyberAware?

Participating in Cyber Security Awareness Month can take many forms, all of which are beneficial to generating cyber safety. Are you the tech savvy one in your family or group of friends? Try explaining why being careful on the internet and protecting your computer is important. Consider sharing these cyber security videos on social media. If you have kids, think about going through how dangerous it can be to share delicate information on the web, and give them basic rules-of-thumb for staying secure on social sites. It might also be a good time to make new passwords, update your virus software and check out recent, local security alerts that could affect you on Florida Credit Union's Security Alerts page.

What does FCU do to be Cyber Secure?

Florida Credit Union is dedicated to supporting our membership with the most up-to-date and efficient (re: safe!) technology. In fourth quarter of 2015, we’re going to be enhancing our internal systems, which will allow us to improve how we serve our members.
